Develop revenue to offset dwindling general fund. We need technology more than ever, with staff reductions possible and those staff remaining needing more tools.

Develop more transparency, gov and web 2.0 capabilities; the public wants to participate more, be better informed. Who knows what other reasons. Divert existing staff to this effort. Enlist volunteers if we can figure out how to get through the supervision, training and liability issues.

Okay, I realize that this also means that there be an official mechanism and procedure for publishing official city press releases and news statements, but a way for Petaluma citizens to keep tabs on things like water conservation alerts, or announcements of new billling features, would be really nice.

For people who work late, have to do kids' homework, live on the East side of town and can't drive in time to get to the meeting.
